Bucari Leon Campsite – Iloilo’s Own Little Baguio
Sitting all day at work, talking to clients every day and afterward spending the night at the bar or head home to rest. These maybe our daily routine for a couple of years. You might start to feel the stress that’s been accumulating from your work. Then, It’s time for an adventure!
Vacation! We all love this time of the year, you may get to relax in between your daily routine but nothing more satisfying than having a comfy adventure where you can set aside those difficulties we had.
The “Little Baguio” of Iloilo City
Summer is a great time for a great adventure along with the team at the same increase the bond between you and your colleague or friends.
Bucari, Leon has been regarded as the “Little Baguio” or “Summer Capital” of Iloilo City. It is a popular tourist spot for local and foreigners alike. The temperature in the area ranges from 18 to 20 °C (64 to 68 °F) and dipping to 10 °C (50 °F) with the wind factor from December to February.
Presently, there is a campsite in Sitio Tabionan where people could bring their own tent for an overnight stay or rent from the LGU stationed at the campsite. You could bring your friends, loved ones or family to have a comfy picnic and bonding moment around the bonfire at night.
The campsite in bucari is surrounded by tall pine trees, there are cottages in the area to accommodate guest and travelers. Electricity is not a problem too.Right beside the campsite is another must go place if you stay overnight. Just outside the campsite is a trail going up to Mansiga Peak Viewing Deck. The way up could be a challenge, better prepare yourselves for a great hike. The view and scenery will amazen you once you arrived.
It’s an amazing experience watching the sunrise or sunset at the Mansiga Peak with a cup of coffee in hand or simply together with someone.
How to get there?
It is a 60km ride from Iloilo City to Bucari, Leon, Campsite area. 50% is flat land, the remaining is a trek high up in the mountains, you don’t have to worry about the road, the government is working hard to construct a safe passage for locals as well as guest from all over the world.
From Iloilo City, you will have to go to Jaro Public Market where the jeepney going to Leon are situated. You will have to wait until the jeepney will be full of passengers to set off, it takes around 30min ride going to Leon, Iloilo.
Then, after arriving at Leon Public Market (this is where the jeepney will drop you off). You will have two choices to get to Bucari, Leon, Campsite or Tabionan Campsite.
- Via motorcycle or habal-habal – adventure won’t be fun if you don’t ride your way up via this method. Of course, you can choose the other transportation if you are afraid of riding on motorcycles. The regular fee is P200 for every person, 1 motorcycle can accommodate 2 people that include your baggage too.
- Via Jeepney – I advise that you and your team to be early in the morning. That is because the jeepney going up to bucari campsite will take some hours, yes hours, not minutes but hours. You’re lucky if the jeepney will be full by the time you arrive.
It takes around another 30min traveling from the town to the campsite. So better to make it early if you don’t plan to stay overnight.
What are you waiting for?
Life is short, we should cherish and seize every moment we can. Grab your backpack and let’s get into an adventure in Bucari Leon Campsite!
